Food for Kids Backpack Program
Did you know that children who are suffering from food insecurity do not perform well academically, display unacceptable behavior and have poor attendance in school due to illness or reasons unexcused? These are part of the reasons why the 4-H Food for Kids Backpack Program was created.
To date more than 330 Muhlenberg County youth depend upon their weekend foods being provided by the 4-H Food for Kids Backpack Program. The Muhlenberg County 4-H Teen Club coordinates the program with local Family Resource Center Directors. Teens hold fundraisers (like the "Penguin Plunge" pictured above) for the program and volunteer to deliver the food to Muhlenberg County schools weekly.
All funds to purchase food for the program are raised locally. Donations are welcome any time. Checks should be made to 4-H Backpack Program and can be mailed to the Muhlenberg County Cooperative Extension Service ATTN: 4-H Backpack Program 3690 State Route 1380 Central City, KY 42330.
